Khabib Nurmagomedov anser att hans match mot Tony Ferguson är den största genom tiderna i UFCs lättviktsdivision.
Den fjärde mars kommer obesegrade Khabib Nurmagomedov (24-0) ta sig an Tony Ferguson (22-3) i en femrondare på UFC 209, där ett interimbälte i lättvikt står på spel.
Enligt ”The Eagle” blir det lättviktens största match någonsin i UFC.
”This is biggest fight in my carer. One of the biggest fight … I think biggest fight in UFC lightweight history, you know?” sa han nyligen i en intervju med RT Sports. ”I fight for the title finally, I am very excited about this fight. This is my dream to become UFC lightweight undisputed and undefeated champion and I will do this, Inshallah, march fourth.”
Ferguson är i dagsläget rankad på andra plats i divisionen precis efter Nurmagomedov, och har imponerat stort med hela nio raka vinster. Dagestaniern vet att det kommer bli en stor utmaning för honom – men har redan planen klar för sig.
”Tony Ferguson is tough opponent. This is true, that is why he is fighting for the title. My plan: make him tired, maybe talk with him … you know, make him tap. And finish this fight, take the belt, make history and go home. This is my dream and this is what I have to do.”
Nurmagomedov hade möjligheten att möta Jose Aldo (26-2) istället, men stod fast vid att han ville möta Ferguson som han anser är ett tuffare test. Han bryr sig inte om att skydda sitt obesegrade matchfacit, och även om Conor McGregor (21-3) just nu är den regerande mästaren så anser han att vinnaren på UFC 209 blir den ”riktiga” mästaren.
”I never think about my record. When I go to the cage all the time this is my new fight. About interim belt, I don’t think to much because people know this is real high level fight in the UFC lightweight. Who win this fight is who become the real champ.”
