Kvällssvepet: Chael Sonnen: ”Jag och Rory MacDonald kommer mötas – han vet om det”

Chael Sonnen fick äntligen göra upp med rivalen Wanderlei Silva i huvudmatchen på Bellator NYC i helgen. Sonnen gjorde också det han skulle när han kontrollerade brassen över tre ronder med nedtagningar och ground-and-pound, och tog hem segern via enhälligt domslut.

Efter matchen utmanade Sonnen både nyss besegrade tungviktaren Fedor Emelianenko och welterviktaren samt forne UFC-fightern Rory MacDonald, som nyligen imponerade stort i sin Bellator-debut mot Paul Daley.

I en intervju med Ariel Helwani efter galan uppger Sonnen att han kommer att göra upp med MacDonald förr eller senare, något han ser som oundvikligt – något ska nämligen ha hänt mellan de båda:

”I’d take on anybody. Rory McDonald and i are going to cross paths eventually. And yeah, i know it’s weird to call out a guy who is 170 pounds, but there’s a story behind it. Rory knows what happened. We have to fight. I have no choice.”

“I have no problem with Rory, won’t pretend i will, Rory and i are going to fight, and he knows it. So we’ll see what happens, he’s going to fight with [Douglas] Lima next, and i need a dance partner, but i will take on all comers, man,” säger Sonnen.

Sonnen förklarar också valet att skicka en utmaning till 40-årige tungviktslegendaren Emelianenko, som nyss förlorat via brutal TKO i den första ronden mot Matt Mitrione i pay-per-view-galans delade huvudmatch:

“Don’t misinterpret that, I’m on a legends ass-whopping tour. And there’s only so many of them around here, and Fedor is the next one around here. And I believe that fight was being looked at, so it’s like look, if we’re going to do this fight anyway, let’s make it my idea. And I was never kicking a guy when he’s down. Don’t forget, he was the curtain jerker and I was the main event. I’m gonna be the main event next time. I was pulling Fedor up!” menar Sonnen.
