Det är inte alla som står bakom Conor McGregor, den minst sagt kontroversiella irländaren. Kollegan Cole Miller kan räknas till denna skara, samtidigt som han anser att tröst kan hittas i faktumet att UFC verkar vara av motsatt åsikt.
Cole Miller (21-8) kan mycket mycket väl ha duckat en kula i och med den brutna hand som tvingade honom ur huvudmatchen på helgens UFC Fight Night 46. Han ersattes av Diego Brandao (18-10), som klarade sig i lite mer än fyra minuter mot den ivriga Conor McGregor (15-2), som gladde hemmapubliken i Dublin, Irland med det kvicka avslutet av brasilianaren. Enligt Miller var det inte så konstigt att ”Notorious” såg så imponerande ut som han gjorde, då det tillsynes var upplagt för ett irländskt firande.
”I thought he looked pretty solid,” berättade han för Sherdog.com. ”It’s pretty easy to look good when everything’s made for you to look good. He got to fight in his home town with all those people there supporting him. He got a full camp of preparation when his opponent didn’t. I don’t think anyone can really judge Diego. He got in there and like I said, he didn’t get his full camp.”
Att McGregor är en friskt vind i fjäderviktsklassen är det nog inte många som skulle argumentera emot; han utgör efter blott tre matcher i UFC, samtliga vinster, en av sportens mest omtalade, samtidigt som hans kapacitet i oktagonen talar för sig själv. Således är det inte alltför konstigt att organisationen har ett gott öga till irländaren, vilket Miller påpekade under intervjun.
”Absolutely, I think [UFC is] behind [McGregor],” uppgav han. ”I don’t think that he’s a bad thing. I’m not saying he’s great for the sport but he’s probably pretty good for the division. I don’t think Jose Aldo is that big of a draw amongst the fighters. Everyone’s always looking for the gold and he’s the best, but I don’t get a good vibe from fans. Nobody really wants to watch Aldo fight.”
