Demetrious Johnson var mannen som fick avancera vidare till final i UFCs flugviktsturnering efter att han besegrade Ian McCall i helgen. Planen är nu att han ska möta Joseph Benavidez i en titelmatch för att bestämma UFCs första flugviktsmästare, men nu ser det ut som att matchen kommer att få vänta ett tag.
”Honestly I would like to fight tomorrow but I got a couple a injures coming in to this fight from my last fight,” säger Johnson på Inside MMA. ”You know, I had stitches, had a hematoma on my shin and I also went to the doctor today and have to go into small procedure on Friday. I suffered a hernia during the fight and I will be out for about two weeks.
I went in this morning and I will have my consultation tomorrow and we are hoping to get into surgery on Friday and get that taken care of and get those injuries out of the way. I don’t want to go off and fight and then prolong it because it’s very uncomfortable when I am just standing here or doing anything. So I just want to get it taken care of so I can move forward in my career and get that belt around my waist.”
Nu räknar inte Johnson på en väldigt lång rehabiliteringstid, men de första spekulationerna om att finalmatchen skulle ske i början av hösten kan bli svår att hinna med. Speciellt om han först ska opereras, och sedan rehabiliteras. Så då bör en mer realistisk tidsplan vara att finalmatchen sker någon gång i slutet av året.
