Trots att UFC 178 innehåller flera stormatcher så är en nyligt tillagd fjäderviktsmatch en av de största dragningskrafterna.
På UFC 178 möts fjäderviktarna Dustin ”The Diamond” Poirer (16-3) och ”Notorious” Conor McGregor (15-2) i en redan omtalad match. McGregor har på senare tid exploderat i popularitet, något som hans senast knockoutvinst, mot Diego Brandao på en slutsåld arena i Dublin, enbart ökade.
Poirer är både förstående och irriterad över att McGregors kaxiga attityd lett till så mycket både positiv och negativ uppmärksamhet.
“He just runs his mouth a little bit too much,” sa Poirier till MMA Fight Corner. “He just kind of brings that kind of hatred towards himself. But, at the same time, people want to see him fight. So he’s doing a job of promoting the sport and the featherweight division. But he just got dealt a bad hand this time.”
För Poirer så spelar det i slutändan ingen roll om Conor McGregor inte håller käften i styr. Oavsett vad irländaren tidigare sagt, exempelvis så har han anspelat på att Poirer inte ville ställa upp för att möta honom i Dublin, så fokuserar han på matchen.
”When it’s all said and done – September 27 – me and Conor McGregor are going to step in. His fans can’t come with him. His coaches and friends can’t come with him. It’s going to be me and him and I’m going to whup his ass.”
