John Linekers (25-7) fjärde viktmiss inför UFC 183, har verkligen ställt till det i flugviktsdivisonen och det är Linekers manager, Alex Davis, mycket väl medveten om.
Efter den fjärde viktmissen på åtta ufc-matcher har nu Lineker blivit tvingad till att flytta upp en viktklass och det har ställt till det ordentligt då Lineker troligtvis skulle ha utmanat om titeln om han hade klarat av vikten. En annan tilltänkt titelutmanare var Ian McCall (13-5) som hade vunnit två raka matcher innan förlusten mot Lineker.
Davis berättade MMAjunkie Radio för att han inte kommer bråka med UFC om deras beslut att tvinga Lineker upp till bantamvikt.
“I can’t do anything right now,” Davis said. “This was a title contention fight. I just messed them up. I just messed the whole division up, my guy did. Because, this is a title contention fight where the winner can’t fight for the title and knocked out the loser. So, this is a bad situation for Zuffa. So, right now I’m going to sit down and let them tell us what they want us to do.”
Enligt Davis så är det först när matchen närmar sig som Lineker börjar ha svårt med vikten.
“He does really, really well until the last five pounds,” Davis said. “And, what he tells me is he starts getting paranoid about it and thinks that he’s not going to make it and that locks him up. One of the times that he wasn’t making weight, I put him in the sauna and tried to use the card, and no liquid would come out. One of the things they tell me is when you stress, you have a hard time of dropping beyond that.”
“There’s no excuses,” Davis said. “If you’re going to be here, if you’re going to be a champ, if you’re going to fight for a title, you’ve got to be on weight. There’s no buts about it.”
