John ”The Bull” Makdessi (13-4) förlorade sin match mot Donald ”Cowboy” Cerrone (28-6-1) vid UFC 187 i helgen. Dessutom bröt han sin käke och nu säger kanadensaren att han inte är säker på att han vill fortsätta att tävla längre.
Vid UFC 187 hade den kanadensiske lättviktaren John ”The Bull” Makdessi sin karriärs största möjlighet när han tog sig an den nummer fyra-rankade Donald ”Cowboy” Cerrone på galans huvudkort. Det gick dock som många förväntat sig, nämligen att Cerrone skulle vinna och göra det stort. Makdessi avbröt matchen i slutet av den andra ronden efter att ha brutit sin käka orsakad av en huvudspark från Cerrone. Makdessi tog matchen på 4 veckors notis efter att ha vunnit sin match vid UFC 186 och fick beröm av UFC:s VD Dana White efteråt för att ha tagit matchen, men trots detta verkar matchen ha lett till att Makdessi potentiellt kan sluta med sporten. Följande skriver han via sin Facebook-sida:
”In regards of my career I’m 30 years old now I’ve been competing since the age of 6 and turned professional at the age of 23. The 155 devision always leaves me at a disadvantage with opponents having the size and reach advantage and at 145 I won’t feel strong, be too weak and it won’t be good for my health. It’s to bad they don’t make more weight classes for the fighters like they do in boxing. I have to be smart I take too many risks fighting bigger guys, but I know it’s a business no ego involved. This fight I took a lot of damage. Never in my life took so much damage. Have to sit down with myself do a lot of thinking a lot of healing and see what I’m going to do next. Om Makdessi väljer att fortsätta kommer hans status troligen vara högre än någonsin då han under perioder kunde tävla med Cerrone ståendes, vilket inte många klarat av.
