Många har redan gett sin åsikt kring Jon ”Bones” Jones-incidenten som utspelade sig i söndags i Albequerque. Hittils har inte så många som haft en tidigare arbetsrelation med lätt tungviktaren gjort det, så det är intressant att höra vad den pensionerade UFC-mellanviktaren Brian ”All American” Stann har att säga om det hela. Stann är väldigt ärlig kring det hela och påstår sig inte vara alltför överraskad.
Brian ”All American” Stann tränade tillsammans med Jon ”Bones” Jones under flera års tid vid Jackson-Winkeljohn så han har skaffat sig en bra bild av den tidigare mästaren i lätt tungvikt, och han säger till UFC Tonight att han inte är chockad över att Jones varit delaktig i en sådan här incident: ”I’d love to be able to say I was shocked, but I was not. I’d say a 4 or a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. I think that just has more to do with details surrounding it, and how it went down”.
Jones påstås som bekant ha kraschat en hyrbil in en bil där föraren var en gravid kvinna och därefter ha flytt från platsen till fots. Kvinnan bröt sin arm samtidigt som Jones blivit av med sitt bälte och allt pekar på att han kommer att ställas inför rätta på grund av handlingen. Stann sympatiserar med Jones samtidigt som han inte försvarar hans beteende på något sätt utan säger att ex-mästaren är ansvarig för sina handlingar. ”This is the second time he’d been involved in an automobile accident where he was not the only one involved. And a broken arm is a minor injury. Somebody could have died, and that’s an unfixable mistake”.
”Från dag ett hade han mer att förlora än oss andra”
Stann utvecklar även kring förändringen som han sett hos Jones från dagen då han började träna i Albequerque till att nu fatta mindre bra beslut om och om igen: ”I was there the first day he set foot in [Jackson-Wink MMA] gym. And from Day 1, people knew there was something unique about him. Immediately he was a guy who had a lot more to lose than everybody around him, and the leeches and the people came out that wanted to take something from him early on. So he has dealt with a lot of temptation. No, we can’t sugarcoat this. The fact of the matter is he’s lucky. He’s very lucky”.
Han fortsätter med att säga att han säger att Jones inte alltid betett sig så här utan att han tidigare tagit motgångar väldigt bra och att han hoppas att Jones ser detta som en möjlighet att förbättra sig. ”It’s interesting because I’d be a liar if I didn’t say that during my time training with Jon, that I didn’t witness him be kind and caring and a person with character — and not do these types of things. “I remember when he had the loss to Matt Hamill and it was a simple rule break that he wasn’t fully understanding of — he handled that with class, and he handled that with character. I remember that Jon”
”I think this latest punishment hit him hard where it hurts. It hit his wallet, it hit his legacy and it took away a belt that he earned. These are things that he cherished. You gotta hope that he’s feeling remorse right now, that he’s not feeling sorry for himself. That he genuinely feels bad about what he’s done and realizes what he’s done is wrong. That’s what I hope we see from him in the future”. Stann är väldigt ärlig i sitt uttalande och säger att han hoppas att denna händelse kan få Jones att göra de nödvändiga förändringar som krävs för att ta kontroll över sitt liv igen.
