Trots att welterviktaren Neil Magny (14-3) vunnit 6 raka matcher i UFC så har han ingen brådska med att slå sig in i toppen av sin division. Magny, som möter Hyun Gyu Lim (13-4-1) vid helgens UFC Fight Night 66 i Manilla, har som mål att slå sig in i topp fem under 2016 och potentiellt utmana om titeln senare under samma år.
Förra året var ett fantastiskt år för Neil Magny som lyckades vinna fem matcher under ett kalenderår, något som enbart Roger Huerta lyckats med under UFC:s moderna era. Han lyckades dessutom utöka sin vinstrad till sex efter att ha besegrat Kiichi Kunimoto i februari efter att ha strypit ut japanen i den tredje ronden. Trots sex raka vinster får han vänta med att ta sig an de större namnen då han möter den orankade Hyun Gyu Lim i helgens UFC Fight Night 66. Magny har dock inget emot detta utan trivs med att tävla så ofta som möjligt:
”One of the things about my career is that it’s not about what I’m accomplishing now but what I want to accomplish in the future, and in order for me to become the best fighter that I can be, I need to get in there and fight as often as possible and make those mistakes and learn from them and try not to make those same mistakes later on. So if I can stay active and keep fighting, I’d love to”, säger han till ufc.com. Vad gäller hans mål med framtiden så vill han börja att sakta men säkert klättra uppåt i welterviktsdivisionen för att under nästa år ta sig in i den absoluta toppen. ”2015 is the year I start getting bigger name fights and start getting the fights that can start getting me the recognition that I’ve worked for. I see myself getting the guys in the top 15 and top 10 now and I’ll just climb that ladder and be ready for top five fights and title shots in 2016”.
