Trots att Alexander ”The Mauler” Gustafsson kommer från en knockoutförlust är han bokad för en titelmatch mot Daniel Cormier på UFC 192. När Ryan Bader hörde om matchen ringde han Dana White.
Ryan Bader, rankad fyra i lätt tungvikt, verkar för närvarande inte helt nöjd med UFC:s matchningar. I en intervju med Submission Radio berättar han att han anser att Alexander ”The Mauler” Gustafsson tränger sig före honom i kön till titelmatchen mot Daniel Cormier på UFC 192.
“I was just surprised pretty much. He was coming off a loss, not even a loss, a knockout loss to the guy that just lost for the championship in Anthony Johnson.”
Bader valde dock att ta konstruktivt på saken, och lyfte luren och ringde Dana White.
“I did pick up the phone and call Dana and just asked him, like I said, plead my case and gave him what I thought and told him that if there was any reservations about [my] fighting style or anything, … and he just said that they were going with Gustafsson… That’s where it stood and I tried to have him reconsider, but their mind was pretty much set on that.”
Många fans hade säkert sett fram emot en match mellan Bader och Cormier, speciellt efter deras offentliga bråk på presskonferensen efter UFC 187. Trots det väljer Bader att se framåt och fokusera på sitt kommande möte med Rashad Evans, på UFC 192.
“Moving forward, it’s Rashad. The past is the past. I’ll catch up to those guys later, hopefully after this fight,” said the 32-year-old. “If I get through Rashad, (White) doesn’t really see being able to deny me not getting a title shot.”
