WSOF’s mästarinna i stråvikt Jessica ”Jag” Aguilar (18-4) är en av de fighters som vill slåss så ofta som möjligt. Aguilar har tidigare känt att hon inte fått den mängd matcher hon vill ha, men med WSOF bältet i hand så blir fler möten en självklarthet. På WSOF 15 så möter Aguilar, Kalindra Faria (15-3-1) vilket blir hennes tredje fight detta år, men Aguilar vill ha fler.
“I was hoping for four fights this year, but obviously we’re kind of limited,” berättade Aguilar för MMAJunkie. “I want to fight more. Hopefully next year I’ll have more, but we’ve got to just work with what we’ve got and make the best out of it. I’m happy. I can’t complain. Two years ago I had one fight. I’m really happy for the opportunity to compete and where my future is going.”
Att hinna få in en fjärde fight detta året är nog att tänka lite för optimistiskt men det vill Aguilar i så fall ta igen och köra minst fyra titelförsvar under 2015. Aguilar är enligt många experters mening den mest kompetenta kvinnliga fightern i stråvikt, men missade chansen att hoppa på UFC och The Ultimate Fighter 20-tåget då hon hade signat med WSOF precis innan TUF20 spikades.
Aguilar ser både positivt och negativt på att inte ha varit med i TUF20. Hon har fått fler fighter än någon i serien, då deltagarna har varit upptagna med att filma. Men med UFC och TUF så kommer också något ingen fighter tackar nej till – publicitet.
“I’m really happy with the opportunity and where I’m at and with that WSOF has given me. The only thing that I missed out is just the exposure. It’s on another level. UFC is a bigger platform, and that’s the truth. WSOF has done a great job in the two years it’s been running, so that’s the only thing – the exposure, the push. Everything will come in its time, and that’s the thing I missed out. The reality show and all that stuff, I’m not a reality show girl so I didn’t miss that. I’m more of get to work and fight girl. Everything else will come in its time. I just need to roll with it and keep doing what I’m doing. Keep training and winning my fights.”
Om mötet mot brasilianska Kalindra Faria den 15:de november är Aguilar nöjd med motståndet och berättar att hon bara vill möta fighters som är en utmaning.
“I just want to continue proving myself and continue challenging myself with the best. She’s a strong fighter, has a great record and is on an 11-fight winning streak. It’s a good matchup and I just want to fight people that are challenging and are highly ranked.”
