”I am writing to honor and praise one of the biggest athletes in Swedish history, an icon and a good friend.
Alexander Gustafsson has more or less single handedly put Swedish MMA on the map and the country hasn’t had a superstar like him since Ingemar Johanson beat Floyd Paterson in 1959. It took 56 years for another hero to come out of little Sweden! With a team and a coach like Andreas Michael he did what many never thought possible. I have witnessed his family, coach and manager believing in him and loving him since day one, unconditionally! Back in the amateur days when he fought in basements with 50-70 people in the crowd… Who paid $15 for a ticket snacking pop corn watching him do work he was the exact same humble and goodhearted guy he is today.
When a fighter walks out to Stadium filled with 30 000 people he does it alone, not with 10 teammates that will carry the country on their shoulders, to live up to expectations.
This sport is merciless, it’s either heaven or hell, nothing in between. Sometimes people might feel like he owes them something when they should be the ones thanking him for everything.
One thing I know for sure though… Alex will come back and become the Light Heavyweight champ of the world, not to prove anybody anything, just to follow his heart and continue his mission in life…”
