Den 25 augusti förra året greps den före detta UFC-fightern Lavar Johnson för att ha misshandlat sin flickvän den 11 augusti och nu har han fått sin dom.
Den före detta UFC-fightern, som numera slåss för Bellator MMA, Lavar Johnson (18-10) har idag fått sin dom för misshandeln av sin flickvän den 11 augusti förra året, fem år i fängelse. Det är inte första gången som han har dömts för brott då han 2007 fick 14 dagars fängelse med villkorlig dom för att ha misshandlat sin dåvarande partner. Han fick senare ett förlängt straff till 30 dagar för att ha hotat inblandadeTre personer och ett flertal brev till domaren har beskrivit Johnson som mycket respektfull och en bra förebild.
”Lavar is not the guy that a lot of people perceive because of his fighting career. He just happened to be good at it, made some good money at it and pursued it. Or the guy that was labeled negatively because of this incident. Lavar is a man with serious flaws, incredible potential and self worth.”
”I had the opportunity to invite Lavar to speak to a middle school in a farm labor community, and to see the impact that he had on young children and to listen to him share his story and be honest and encourage those kids to be honest with themselves and know that no matter what type of situation is you can fix it. That’s the type of person Lavar is.”
Innan han fick veta straffet påminde domaren Glenda Allen-Hill om hans tidigare straff och att han hade kunnat hindra detta.
”It does appear there were times when Mr. Johnson could have stopped this offense. That he could have not inflicted the amount of damage that he inflicted on his victim, but he did not.”
Johnson ska ha hoppats på ett treårigt fängelsestraff men fick istället fem års fängelse.
