Chael Sonnen blev tidigare i år kickad av FOX Sports efter att ha testat positivt på fem otillåtna substanser på två olika test. Men ”The American Gangster” har redan hittat en ny kanal att synas i.
Det har under tisdagen rapporterats att Sonnen gör sin ESPN-debut som MMA-analytiker under fredagens SportsCenter då de går genom den kommande galan: UFC 180. Om Sonnens deal så sa ESPN att han signerats för en “multi-fight agreement as a studio and on-site analyst, providing expert pre- and post-fight insight on ‘SportsCenter’’s coverage of major UFC pay-per-view events.”
Sonnen berättar för The Associated Press att han inte kommer undvika några speciella ämnen.
”I wouldn’t shy away from a topic, even if it’s one that brought me shame. There are topics like that, and there are opponents I’m going to have to cover that have also embarrassed themselves, but that’s part of the sport, man. I cherish those moments.”
ESPN har tydligt inte det problem FOX Sports hade med Sonnens positiva testresultat och ESPNs producent Glenn Jacobs gav detta uttalande om Sonnens förflutna till AP:
”We know Chael has made some mistakes in the past. He’s been honest. He’s been up-front about it. He has paid for the mistakes that he has made, and he’s moving forward. … The insights that he has on the sport and the ways he sees it, our fans are going to be so much better from watching him on the air. They’re going to be able to watch the fight and look for totally different things than they would have otherwise.”
