I ett helt eget mediascrum (publicerat av MMAFighting) efter invägningarna inför TUF: Brasil 3 finalen diskuterar den flerfaldiga titelutmanaren kontroversen kring hans nu uteblivna möte med Wanderlei Silva.
Chael Sonnen(28-14 MMA, 7-7 UFC) skulle ursprungligen möta Wanderlei ”The Axe Murderer” Silva(35-12 MMA, 5-7 UFC) på UFC 175 efter deras deltagande i The Ultimate Fighter: Brasil 3. Det var innan Silvas märkliga beteende i samband med ett besök från Nevadas atletiska kommission.
Silva ska ha vägrat utföra dopingtester och skriva på ett avtal som krävts för att få licens att tävla i Nevada, där UFC 175 kommer äga rum.
Chael Sonnen var fortsatt frispråkig om ämnet när han blev tillfrågad igår.
”I said from day one that [Wanderlei] is not going to do the fight. We came to The Ultimate Fighter and he used it as an opportunity to party and he didn’t train.
I thought it was pretty obvious, he wasn’t going to do the match”.
”You know, I’ve been trying to fight him from back when fighting him was hard to do and he wouldn’t do it back then. He wouldn’t do it back when he was winning fights.
To think that he was gonna’ do it now is just unrealistic.”
”You have to understand, The Ultimate Fighter is really a training camp. Yeah, there’s a tournament going on but every day is a training camp. That’s what they’re filming.”
”And he didn’t work out… He wasn’t preparing even though [matchen] was a five-round fight against his enemy.I was in the room practising and he was at the bar drinking.”
Sonnen tog också tillfället i akt att berömma sin nya motståndare, Vitor ”The Phenom” Belfort(24-10 MMA, 13-7 UFC) som Sonnen anser borde vunnit ”Fighter of the Year Award”.
Han dementerar också Dana Whites tidigare uttalanden om att hans möte med Belfort skulle ske i lätt tungviktsklassen, istället för mellanvikt.
