Testosteron och liknande preparat kan snart vara ett minne blott inom MMA, då det genom ett antal beslut och aktioner på senare tid blivit betydligt svårare för professionella inom sporten att undvika dopingtester.
Man tillkännagav nyligen från UFC:s sida att dopingtester inför galor kommer öka avsevärt då delägare Lorenzo Fertitta delade med sig av planerna, som minst sagt kommer försvåra användande av otillåtna preparat vid tävling för organisationen. Under en medieträff i onsdags utvecklade vd Dana White angående detaljer kring de kommande testerna.
”As far as testing, what we used to do is we used to roll into town and the title fight always got tested, and there was random testing,” berättade han. ”We’re testing the whole card now. The whole card is getting tested. Everyone is getting tested.”
White har länge varit en motståndare till prestationshöjande preparat och har gång på gång beklagat sig över de som testat positivt före och efter galor. Nu verkar man dock vara på god väg mot en drogfri sport, i och med TRT-förbudet för tävlande under Nevadas atletiska nämnds styrande, vilket i sin tur öppnade upp för andra nämnder, såsom Kalifornierns och Brasiliens, att ta samma beslut. UFC:s stormsteg mot att eliminera doping för tävlande inom organisationen måste även de räknas till en bidragande faktor och White valde under medieträffen att dela med sig av motivationen bakom beslutet att och vilka de verkliga vinnarna i slutändan blir.
”Obviously, doing away with performance-enhancing drugs not only helps us run our business, but it also helps the fighters,” sa han. ”If you can make sure you take a hard enough stance and you can keep these young, talented kids off these drugs, their careers are going to last longer. Once all the kids realize there is a level playing field, you have these guys paranoid, ‘I know this guy is using, I know he is, I have to fight this guy and he’s on it, so maybe I should do it too’ once we can eliminate all that it’s going to make the sport a lot better for everybody, them and us.”
White passade även på att för en gångs skull berömma NSAC, för deras beslut att förbjuda användandet av TRT vid tävling i staten, trots att det försvårar planerandet av ett antal matcher som UFC gärna skulle vilja hålla i Las Vegas.
”I’m so fucking glad it’s gone,” uppgav han. ”Because we’re still dealing with, you gotta get Dan Henderson and Chael Sonnen licensed in Nevada. And Vitor. All need to get licensed in Nevada. Now the question becomes, because they were on it, their ratios are still going up, even though their levels are down, and I’m like, ‘are you fucking kidding me?’ They’re done, it’s over, and we still can’t figure it out? I’m so happy TRT is gone. It’s confusing, nobody understands it. Not even the doctors, the doctors don’t understand it. If you talk to three, they have three different answers on it. I’m glad it’s gone.”
