– If you look at the MMA these past few years, these new amateures that have come out that have become UFC pros, berättar Fighters Sources Kevin Medina för MMAnytt. They have changed the sport, they have changed the way striking, the standup and transitions and how that have been developed in MMA. If you look at Jon Jones, and Ronda Rousey for example. I mean, they came out of nowhere. So, we want to focus on bringing the next Ronda Rousey, Jon Jones, the next Georges St-Pierre, Chuck Liddell or BJ Penn, any of the legends that we have up there today. We want to help and give these new guys and girls an opportunity to compete on an international level that does not exist today.
– I see this as a movement to get MMA into the Olympics, I see this as a starting point, fortsätter Kevin Medina. And if the olympics are going to recognize this as an olympic sport, somebody’s got to be out there making that movement and we’ve decided to take it upon ourselves. All we need is support, we need people to recognize what we’re doing. Even though it’s not a national team, it’s still a team and it’s starting that buzz, that grass roots movement that starts everything. And that one start is where you get that big fire.
– These are private teams, not national teams, fortsätter han. But what we’re doing is trying to start a movement. […] It’s a win-win situation for both teams. If the swedish team goes over to the UK and wins over Brazil, they’ll come back as heroes. And if they go over there and lose, they’re still going to come back as heroes because no one else has done it. No other team was put together to fight Team Brazil. So either way they’re heroes. It’s also good PR for everyone, so I hope Team Sweden goes over there and kick’s their butt! But Renzo’s got some good guys and girls so Team Sweden needs to be prepared.
