Under presskonferensen efter UFC 157: Rousey vs Carmouche framkom det via UFC:s vd Dana White att fjäderviktsmästare Jose Aldo (22-1) inte vill acceptera matchen mot Anthony ”Showtime” Pettis (16-2). Mästaren tycker helt enkelt inte att Pettis har förtjänat chansen att utmana om titeln.
”Jose Aldo came out and said, ’There’s no way in hell I’m fighting Pettis,'”, säger White under nattens presskonferens via MMAjunkie. ”He’s absolutely refusing to fight Pettis – doesn’t think he deserves the shot.”
Enligt tidigare rapporter ska en muntlig överenskommelse om match mellan Aldo och Pettis finnas, vilket innebär att Pettis börjat resan från lättvikt till fjädervikt. Men när Aldos manager Andre Pederneiras tog kontakt med White och UFC:s ägare orenzo Fertitta under UFC on Fuel 7 i London och bad om en annan match.
”Andre Pederneiras was in England and he sat down with me and Lorenzo [Fertitta] and was like, ’We don’t think he deserves it,'” förklarar White. ”What do you mean you don’t think he deserves it? ’Well, he might be the No. 1 guy at 155, but how does that make him the No. 1 guy [at 145]?’ Are you out of your fucking mind? Are you serious? Did you seriously just ask me that question?”
”It’s like if Aldo wanted to move up to 155, are we going to say he’s not the No. 1 contender? What are you talking about?”
Trots invändningarna från Aldo menar White att UFC står fast vid den planerade matchen och att den är preliminärt bokad till den 3 augusti.
