Bellators tidigare mästare i lättvikt Michael Chandler (13-3) säger sig ha det som krävs för att besegra den nuvarande mästaren Will Brooks och att det blir tredje gången gilt för honom.
Michael Chandler hade en imponerande prestation vid fredagens Bellator 138. Han submittade Derek Campos i den första ronden efter att ha sänkt honom med en höger hand. I och med detta vann Chandler sin första match på nästan två år efter att ha förlorat två raka matcher mot den regerande lättviktsmästaren Will Brooks. Den första matchen dem emellan var jämn och slutade med ett oenigt beslut men i returen dominerade Brooks Chandler och avslutade honom i den femte ronden. Chandler är dock säker på att han har vad som krävs för att återerövra bältet om han ges chansen. Detta sa han under måndagens The MMA Hour”:
”If I would have fought Will Brooks [last Friday], I would have won hands down. No ifs, ands or buts. I’m 100 percent confident in that. Where I was at that point in time, mentally and physically as far as game plan and skills and just fighting a certain way, I wasn’t where I needed to be. People love to see somebody who was in a bad situation, who was down and out, down in a valley and came out and just persevered. That was the culmination of what it was the other night, of just kind of being down on myself, sometimes wondering how have I fallen from where I was to where I am now?
And now just being able to build back up. It’s definitely an emotional situation. It’s awesome and I really do feel like I’m the best mixed martial artist I’ve ever been, more skilled than I’ve ever been and now I’m more confident than I’ve ever beenI’ve had some losses, I’ve had some bad performances. But you’re not gonna stop me from knowing and thinking that I’m the best lightweight in the world. And I know I’m gonna get back to that. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’m gonna have that title around my waist in the future”.
