Ingen har än så länge lyckats besegra UFC-mästarinnan Ronda Rousey, och det är med den nollan i förlustkolumnen som hon planerar att lämna sporten.
”I do four-year cycles. I think I’ve got two years left in me, realistically, if I’m going to do this like an Olympic run,” har UFCs mästare i kvinnlig bantamvikt ”Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (7-0) sagt i en tidigare intervju. UFCs vd Dana Whites reaktion? ”There’s no way in hell [she will retire in two years].”
Vare sig som Rousey menade fullt allvar eller inte så verkar det som att hon fått ännu en anledning till att kunna lämna sporten i framtiden. Detta är på grund av att UFC planerar att införa en division i kvinnlig stråvikt. Rousey berättade nyligen i en intervju med MMA Junkie att hon känner mindre press för att hålla sig kvar i sporten eftersom fler kvinnor tar upp den, och avlastar pressen från att vara representant för alla kvinnliga MMA-fighters.
“I’m so excited the 115-pound division was brought in,” sa Rousey. “A lot of them are so bright and charismatic. I really think they could carry the gauntlet in a fantastic way, and I couldn’t be any happier for them. It’s a lot of weight off my shoulders that there will be another women’s champion out there.”
Även om hon känner en lättnad så är hon inte riktigt redo att lämna sporten i dagsläget. Inte än.
“I really still feel like that weight is still on my shoulders,” sa Rousey. “When I feel like I don’t have that responsibility anymore, that’s when I’ll start thinking about stepping away.”
Mästarinnan berättar att hennes mål är att i slutändan lämna sporten med ett lika fläckfritt matchfacit som hon har i dagsläget.
“Retire undefeated is what I’m going to do, and my mind is resolved to that,” Rousey said. “None of these girls have the right to beat me under any circumstances, and I’m not going to allow that to happen. I’m going to fight until I feel like I’m done, and when I feel like I’m done, I’m going to walk away and leave the sport in very capable hands.”
