Den förre obesegrade professionelle kickboxaren Stephen Thompson intervjuades under gårdagen av MMAweekly inför hans möte med Johnny Hendricks vid UFC Fight Night 82 i MGM Grand Garden nu på lördag. Thompson säger bland annat att det är fighters som Conor McGregor, som kan styra och kontrollera avstånd inne i oktagonen, som är sportens framtid.
Den förre obesegrade kickboxaren Stephen ”Wonderboy” Thompson pratade under gårdagen med MMAweekly.com om sitt kommande möte med Johnny Hendricks vid UFC Fight Night 82: Hendricks vs. Thompson på lördag i MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas. Thompson berättar att MMA är en sport som just nu utvecklas väldigt snabbt, och att det är fighters som Conor McGregor som kan styra och kontrollera avstånd inne i oktagonen som är sportens framtid.
”The game is changing with mixed martial arts, and the people who know how to manage distance, if you watch McGregor in his fight it was beautiful against Aldo, he managed distance, he got him a little bit frustrated, right in the beginning of the round Aldo didn’t know what McGregor was going to do with his back and forth movement which lead Jose Aldo to come in with that swinging left hand, and McGregor ended up clocking him”…”So it’s the people that who can manage distance better than your opponent that will determine whether or not: Am I going to fall into his game plan or is he going to fall into mine. It’s a distance game”.
Thompson ger också sin syn på Johnny Hendricks uttalanden om att han kommer att försöka ställa sig framför Thompson och ta reda på vem av dem som slår hårdast:
”Hendricks is a tough dude but if he thinks that he can stand and bang with me he is going to find out that he is not going to be able to do that, that’s when he going to try to shoot in and take me down and I am not going to let that happen”.
