Sedan UFC påbörjade sitt samarbete med United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) så har flera atleter blivit avstängda eller väntar på straff. En av dem är Brock Lesnar som fortfarande är tillfälligt avstängd efter UFC 200.
Det stormade rejält kring Brock Lesnar efter att det visat sig att han testat positivt för otillåtna preparat i samband med sin fight mot Mark Hunt.
Den välkända WWE-stjärnan har varit tyst om doping-anklagelserna men i ett uttalande säger hans team att det positiva testet kan ha att göra med Lesnars ögon- och/eller fotmedicin.
Sedan UFC 200 har flera olika förklaringar till Lesnars positiva test flutit upp till ytan. Bland annat har man hävdat att hans astma-medicin kan ha orsakat de positiva testet i samband med galan.
Nu har Lesnars team en annan vinkel på problemet och har börjat göra tester på WWE-stjärnans ögon- och fotmediciner för att se om de ger utslag för bland annat clomiphene.
I ett uttalande gjort av advokat Howard Jacobs, som representerar Lesnar, sägs det att utredningen är igång:
“We are still investigating this matter (which investigation includes the ongoing testing of products used by Mr. Lesnar prior to the date of the positive test). To provide further detail, I am advised that the testing laboratory (Korva Labs) initially tested an eye medication, which was negative for either clomiphene or clomiphene metabolites. Subsequent testing has been conducted on a foot cream; that testing has included three separate extraction attempts, all of which have failed. A fourth extraction attempt is being made by Korva Labs this week.”
“As you may be aware, testing of such creams can be a difficult process, as the extraction process can be significantly complicated by both a complex matrix and interfering substances,” skrev Jacobs i ett uttalande i september. “Until a successful extraction can be accomplished, this product cannot be tested for contamination with clomiphene or clomiphene metabolites. For this reason, the extraction failures to date provide no indication as to whether or not this cream is contaminated with clomiphene or clomiphene metabolites.”
Det är MMAjunkie som fått tag i uttalandena som gjordes i september. Det tåls att se om de gör någon skillnad och om vi i sådana fall kommer få se Lesnar tävla i buren igen.
Bland annat Chad Mendes har hävdat att hans positiva test berodde på otillåtna substanser som han fått i sig genom hudkräm.
