Nyskilde Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos har genomgått ännu en separation och denna gång är det med Strikeforce som han lämnat på egen begäran.
Santos hade ett kontrakt med Strikeforce på sex matcher över två år som krävde att han exklusivt gick matcher för organisationen. Men efter att ha gått utan match i nästan ett är kände ”Cyborg” att det inte var det rätta för hans karriär.
”I resigned, quit Strikefroce because I signed a six-fight two-year contract. They gave me two fights and it’s been a year I haven’t fought. I can’t live like this, spending a year on the ‘fridge’. There’re events all over the world. People who know me know I like to be active. Since September 2011 I haven’t fought. I can’t do it. Together with my manager, Rudimar (Fedrigo), I’ve sent a letter asking for Strikeforce to release me and they did”., säger Evangelista Santos till Tatame. “I lost speed. It’s like playing soccer. You gotta keep playing it. A fighter’s source of money is the money he makes from fighting. If he doesn’t fight he doesn’t make money and doesn’t pay the bills. Everybody has family and their appointments. You can be better than your opponent, but if you fight a guy who’s coming from a three-fight row it’s gonna be a big difference”
Santos har efter snart femton år som professionell fajter lyckats samla ihop 18 vinster och 15 förluster på meritlistan och i oktober är det dags för nästa match när han utmanar om welterviktstiteln hos sin nya arbetsgivare Instinct MMA.
“I closed a three-fight deal with Instinct, which is a Canadian event. I’ll fight on October 21st, against Brandon Thatch, who’s the champion there. Then I’ll fight in December and again in February. They assured me three fights within six months. The event doesn’t have an exclusivity clause, so I can fight in other shows too. Even though it’s not a big event like Strikeforce, it’s best to keep fighting than don’t fight at all. I can fight in Brazil, in America or anywhere else”.
