Med ett dygn kvar innan det var dags för Andreas ”Sweet Swede” Spång att gå match mot Justin Torrey på Bellator 98 kom beskedet att matchen är inställd. Det var Spång själv som gick ut med det på Facebook.
”I’m so sorry guys but I’m not fighting tomorrow and I’m out off the tournament. The Doctors at Mohegan Sun didn’t pass me to fight. I apologize to my sponsors Solution and Nubreed Nutrition that have behind through my whole training camp and to all my fans and friends!”
Även Joe Warren stoppades från att gå match rapporterar MMAjunkie.com. Warren skulle möta Nick Kirk i den delade huvudmatchen men Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation tog beslutet att stoppa matchen. Bellators Bjorn Rebney gav följande uttalande:
”I’ve been fortunate to work with one of the best commissioners in the sport in Mike Mazzulli, and after carefully reviewing Joe’s medical documents, everyone agreed to err on the side of caution with the goal of ensuring our fighters safety. It was determined Joe would be unable to compete this Saturday at Mohegan Sun. Joe’s been with us since the beginning, and as is the case with every fighter here, it’s incumbent on me to ensure Joe is 100 percent healthy and medically cleared to fight before he steps into the Bellator cage.”
Spångs ersättare i turneringen blir Brennan Ward (6-1).
