Jake Shields ser en titelmatch i UFC inom en snar framtid förutsatt att han segrar på UFC 171.
Vid 35 års ålder och med sju matcher i UFC på meritlistan har veteranen Jake Shields (29-6-1, 1 NC) siktet inställt på att försöka säkra en titelmatch. Han hoppas lyckas med detta genom att göra det ingen annan tidigare klarat av, att avsluta Hector Lombard (33-4-1) när han ställs mot honom på UFC 171.
– I’ve gotta be close. I’m on a good win streak right now, and I want to go out there put Hector away and hopefully finish, which isn’t an easy task. I would be the first guy to do it and get a title shot, säger Shields till MMAJunkie. I want to take him down, go for a submission, (and work) heavy ground and pound. I think if I can finish him, I can probably get a title shot. So I need to go out there and push as hard as I possibly can. Hector’s a guy you can’t go in and push too fast; you don’t want to go in and start trading with him, because in my mind, he’s quite possibly the hardest hitter in the 170-pound division.
UFC 171: Hendricks vs Lawler går av stapeln den 15 mars på American Airlines Arena i Dallas, Texas. I galans huvudmatch gör Johny Hendricks (15-2) och Robbie Lawler (22-9) upp om den vakanta welterviktstiteln. På matchkortet finner man även matchen mellan Carlos Condit (29-7) och Tyron Woodley (12-2) som båda har liknande ambitioner och förhoppningar som Shields.
