Welterviktaren Johny Hendricks hade förväntat sig att få en chans på titeln efter två raka vinster mot Jon Fitch and Josh Koscheck. Det var i alla fall vad jag hade blivit lovad av UFC.
Nu verkar det som att han kommer att få spela på andrafiolen på UFC 154 mot Martin Kampmann medan Georges St. Pierre och Carlos Condit gör upp vem som är mästare i viktklassen.
Matchen var inte vad Hendricks hade hoppats på men han tänker göra det bästa av situationen säger han i en intervju med MMA Fighting.
”It is what it is. I feel like I fought the best guys at 170 in our division and I’ve won, but it looks like I have to get through one more person, and that’s just the way it goes. You can either sit here and complain about it or you can sit there and do your best to win it.
”Of course you’re disappointed. You get promised a title shot and then something happens and it doesn’t happen. But then again, that’s the nature of this business. There’s always good fights going on, you just have to win each one.
”I’m training for a five-round fight because if one of them gets hurt, I got to take my opportunity when I can.”
Även om Hendricks är besviken är det rimligt att ”interim-situationer” alltid bör lösas först innan man går vidare med fler titelmatcher i viktklassen. Annars skulle det bli ohållbart.
UFC 154 förväntas gå av stapeln på Bell Centre i Montreal, Kanada, den 17 november.
