Både regerande mästare Jon Jones och hans kommande utmanare Glover Teixeira genomgick för ett spontant test för doping och droger i samband en mediadag i Albuquerque.
Inför UFC 172 valde Maryland State Athletic Commission att genomföra ett spontant drog- och dopingtest på Jon Jones (19-1) och Glover Teixeira (22-2) inför deras kommande möte.
– The Maryland Commission sent a lab to drug test me and I’m glad they did, sa Jones under UFC Tonight. It was urine and blood. They had a test for HGH, I think it was HGH, then they had a urine test that detects all other type of stuff.
Enligt Jones var provtagningen ett resultat av hans representanters initiativ eftersom de inte ville att det skulle finnas några tveksamheter inför den kommande titelmatchen.
– It was something me and my management team asked for several months ago, menar Jones. We thought it would be great to make sure everyone was playing fair in this fight. I’m not accusing my opponent of anything, but it’d just be great to see.
– They said they would need the UFC to approve it, the UFC approved it and paid for the whole thing and they never told me or Glover when our tests would come. I’m happy that it came.
Varken Jones eller Teixeira har någonsin testat positivt för droger eller prestationshöjande medel under sina respektive MMA-karriärer.
– I want our sport to be a clean sport. I want athletes to have pride and hard work and that’s why I thought I would put my money where my mouth is and get the test for myself.
– I’ve been pretty verbal about being against steroids. It’s easy to say that you’re against it and maybe have people question you. I don’t know, I’m not the thickest guy muscle-wise, but it makes me feel good to have people see that I haven’t taken anything, that I’m not on anything and that this fight is going to be played out clean. I’m actually hoping that we get tested again before the fight, säger Jones.
