Kontroversen gällande några av de fighters som fått titelchanser på senare tid har ännu inte lättat. Den forne mellanviktaren Chael Sonnen får en titelchans i lätt tungvikt trots att han kommer från en förlust, likt Nick Diaz som utmanar welterviktsmästaren Georges St-Pierre på UFC 158. Det är inget som förbättrar Koschecks bild av Diaz.
Welterviktaren Josh ”Kos” Koscheck tycker att fighters har börjat snacka till sig titelchanser, och är kritisk mot de ovannämnda titelmatcherna. Han är dessutom ingen fan av Nick Diaz, som får nästa titelchans i weltervikt, och hans sätt att hantera saker.
”Did you say fan? I’m not a fan,” berättade koscheck för MMA Mania. “His values and my values are completely different. He does things that I don’t do like smoking pot and I don’t associate it with that. I’m not saying it’s wrong, but that’s just what he does and it’s not my thing. I’m not a fan of Nick Diaz, no. It just seems like now in the UFC, if you can talk a good game, you might be able to get a light heavyweight title shot. And if you get suspended for a year, come right back after losing a fight, you get to fight Georges St. Pierre for the title.”
Diaz blev avstängd efter att ha testat positivt för marijuana efter matchen mot Carlos ”The Natural Born Killer” Condit på UFC 143, som han förlorade via enhälligt domslut. Diaz fick böta 30% av sin lön och stängdes av i ett år, matchen mot St-Pierre bokades innan hans avstängning upphörde. ”Kos” finner det absurt att Stockton-sonen skulle få en titelchans efter en sådan avstängning, och tror på en enkel vinst för welterviktsmästaren.
”So, maybe I’ll just take a couple of months off, do some things I shouldn’t do, and maybe I’ll get to fight for the title. But, hey, he’s in the position now and hopefully he can step up and beat Georges St. Pierre. I highly doubt it — I believe it’s going to be an easy fight for St. Pierre. He’ll just take him down, wrestle him and control him like he has everyone else. Georges is going to be there for a while — it’s going to take a good wrestler who can stop his takedowns and has power in his hands and eventually knock him out.”
