I en welterviktsmatch på huvudkortet av UFC Fight Night 34 ställde brassen Luis ”Besouro” Dutra Jr. (11-3-1) upp på kort varsel för att möta japanen Kiichi Kunimoto (16-5-2). Dutra Jr. gjorde bra av sig, undvek nedtagningarna och var nära på att slå ut sin motståndare, innan han träffade med flera armbågar i bakhuvudet, ett område på kroppen som fighters inte får lov att slå. Kunimoto kunde inte fortsätta, och matchen slutade i vinst via diskvalificering för japanen.
”Besouro” erkänner att han gjorde fel, men anser även att Kunimoto spelade upp skadan mer än nödvändigt.
“He exaggerated for a fact,” sa Dutra till MMA Junkie. “As I see it, he could have returned. He didn’t return, I believe, because I was making things hard for him since I figured him out. … In truth, he played it up to some extent. But there’s no room for opinion because the rule is clear: Strikes to the back of the head are illegal. My intent was to soften him up after I stifled his takedown attempt. I made a mistake.
“As I said before, the error is mine. The rule is clear, so the disqualification is fair, whether he played it up or not. Whether or not he came back, the fault was mine. I assume full responsibility.”
Brassen konstaterar dock att ingen av dem ville avsluta matchen på grund av en diskvalificering, och hoppas på att en returmatch kan ordna allt.
“I believe that he didn’t want to win like that,” sa Dutra. “I’m not here to judge anyone since I’m in the wrong, but I would very much like to face him again.”
