Trots att Michael Bisping håller hus i mellanvikten så har han valt att sticka in huvudet i diskussionen bland de lätta tungviktarna och nämnt Mauricio ”Shogun” Rua.
”I have asked for higher fights a couple times. I can kind of understand why Shogun Rua feels the way he does being a former champion. And Glover Teixeira is an amazing fighter, but he is not a household name like Shogun. Glover has everything to win in this situation, but Shogun has to look at what the gains are for him. I am not saying I would choose my fights, but I sympathize with them. We are not in the habit of choosing our fights, the UFC makes the fights. I have never turned down an opponent.”, säger Bisping till UFC Tonight.
Man kan tolka Bisping som att han tycker att Rua gjorde det rätta valet att avstå en match mot Glover Teixeira. Men varför lyfta fram att han själv aldrig gjort på det sättet?
”Shogun” har dock andra saker att tänka på än vad Bisping tänker och tycker då han ställs mot Brandon Vera i huvudmatchen på helgens UFC on FOX 4 i en match där en imponerande vinst kan ge en chans på mästartiteln.
