Bellators tidigare fjäderviktsmästare Pat Curran (20-7) är emot dopning men anser samtidigt att en avstängning på tre år är för lång tid.
Pat Curran tycker om att det inte kommer att löna sig med att fuska genom att ta steroider och andra olagliga preparat. Dock säger han till MMAjunkie att han tycker att tre år som Alexander Shlemenko mottog från CSAC är alldeles för länge för en fighter som försöker försörja sig och sin familj genom att fightas:
”A lot of people out there choose to do steroids to get that extra edge in the fight. I don’t think it’s fair – it’s definitely not fair to the guys that aren’t using steroids, and it’s only fair to the sport and everyone else in it to keep it on a level playing field. I mean, that’s pretty long, especially for a fighter. It’s really not up to me to make that decision, but three years is a very long time. That could ruin a fighter, especially financially. That’s going to hurt him a lot.
I’m not worried. It’s just not worth the risk. People are starting to crack down on it more and more, and it’s just not fair to the other athletes. I like to stay natural, and stress-wise, I’m not going to fail a test. Leading into a fight is stressful enough, and I can’t even imagine having that in the back of my head – ‘What if I fail?’ So I decided not to go that route”.
