“We were keeping in shape because potentially we were going to fight ‘Shogun’ on this card,” berättade Bader för MMAjunkie. “It was my wife’s birthday, and we were going on vacation, so I told my manager, ‘Hey, let me know, because we haven’t heard for a couple of weeks.’”
“My first reaction was, ‘Hell, yeah. Let’s do it. Why not?’”
“I didn’t watch it. I watched like the little highlights on it. I’m not that fighter anymore. I was a wrestler. I literally went in there – it was my first big fight, too – I went in there and, ‘All right, I’ve just got to get this takedown.’
Everybody talked about how good of a boxer he was. I wasn’t versed in fighting southpaws, so for me, it was just kind of going in there, throwing my right hand and going for a takedown, and on my feet, it was kind of just, ‘Punch the guy in the face.’ Now I have abilities to set my strikes up, keep people guessing. My jiu-jitsu’s better. My MMA wrestling is even better. I know what positions to land in, what not to land in, what gets me in trouble, what doesn’t.”
“It’s perfect timing, right before the holidays. I’m in shape from my last fight. I get to continue getting in even better shape, work on my skillset. I made it here healthy, the biggest thing.
“I believe I’ve grown way more than he has in those six years, and so I look to go in there and show people that – and it’s good for me. I’ve never had a rematch, and I want to gauge that myself and see how much better I’ve gotten.”
