Tony Ferguson (20-3) kommer ta sig an Khabib Nurmagomedov (22-0) på UFC on FOX 19 och Ferguson hoppas att Nurmagomedov lyckas hålla sig skadefri tills matchen.
Ferguson ville möta Nurmagomedov i mars, men ”The Eagle” kände sig mer redo för en match i april och Ferguson frågade has gravida fru om det var okej för henne att han skulle gå match i april istället.
“She’s due afterward, so she said, ‘Go in there, kick his ass, and come home,’” berättade Ferguson.
Nurmagomedov har inte gått match på två år på grund av operationer för knäskador och Ferguson hoppas att ”The Eagle” kommer att hålla sig skadefri tills matchen.
“I’m not trying to (make) bad blood and say, ‘Hey, I hope you make it to the fight,’” sa Ferguson. “It’s not even a joke anymore. Watch your boy, make sure he’s not training too hard or whatever the hell he’s doing, and make sure he shows up for the fight and makes weight.”
Nurmagomedov tränar ofta utomhus, men Ferguson förklarar att det finns risker med sådana träningar.
“I did a lot of that the same (outdoor training),” sa han. “I’m from the Midwest, so it’s just a way that I’m built tough, and he is to. So I can understand that, but when you go out there, you’re going to step on rocks and you’re going to mess up your knees. It’s just taking chances you don’t necessarily need to take to get that little fight edge. It’s cool, but I’ve been beating these dudes training in a small box.”
Ferguson är redo för att gå en match som varar i 25 minuter och förklarar att Nurmagomedovs vilja inte kommer att vara lika stark som hans. Ferguson berättar även att han inte förstår varför Nurmagomedov ligger så högt upp på rankingen då han inte har gått match på två år.
“Let’s go 25 minutes, with a couple minutes in between, and you’re going to be tested, man,” sa han. “You’re going to be looking at me between the rounds and I’m going to be smiling. I know your will is not as strong as mine. My heart, soul and spirit is there, and this dude just doesn’t have it.
“He hasn’t shown up for two years almost, and I’m tired of it and I think the fans are tired of it. He’s high up in the rankings, and I don’t know why.”
