Det ser ut som att Stephen Thompson ser bortom islänningen Gunnar Nelson. I en nyligen gjord intervju sade ”Wonderboy” att han hade siktet inställt på antingen Robbie Lawler eller Carlos Condit härnäst.
Returmötet mellan welterviktsmästaren Tyron Woodley och Stephen Thompson blev inte riktigt vad fansen hade förväntat sig och efter fem ronder slutade det med en förlust via domslut för ”Wonderboy” Thompson.
Den 34-åriga ”Wonderboy” tittar dock framåt och har redan två potentiella motståndare i skottgluggen, tråkigt nog är inte en av dem den isländska slagskämpen Gunnar Nelson som sagt att han är intresserad av en match.
Det här sade Thompson i en intervju med SFLC Podcast (transkriberat av Fansided):
“I’m looking to fight a top-ranked guy or two. I know there’s a lot of talk about Gunnar Nelson. I think he’s ranked number nine, I’m looking at one through five fight now. I know Demian Maia has a fight coming up with Masivdal. Hopefully (Carlos) Condit, you hear word about him retiring. I’ve always wanted to step out with him, or even Robbie Lawler. I think Gunnar Nelson fights one of those top guys, proves himself that he’s able to go up there. I think in the future we’ll be facing each other but right now it’s those top five guys that I’m looking at.”
Det har varit tyst kring Lawler sedan han förlorade bältet till Woodley den 30 juli men ännu tystare kring Condit som senast förlorade mot Demian Maia.
Det kommer att bli intressant att se om någon av dem besvarar ”Wonderboys” utmaning och om vi inom kort får se ännu en bokad match i welterviktstoppen.
