En gång i tiden låg Fedor Emelianenkos aktier väldigt högt i kurs. Han var obesegrad i nästan 10 år och hade precis avslutat sitt kontrakt med en tidigare organisation. Brock Lesnar var också högt i kurs, men hade nyligen påbörjat sin MMA-karriär. Men trots det så var UFCs vilja att sätta ihop en superfight mellan Lesnar och Fedor, något som vi vet idag inte blev av. Vi har fått små glimtar av hur det hela gått till tidigare från bland annat UFCs VD Dana White, men direkt efter presskonferensen var över efter helgens UFC 145: Jones vs Evans så berättade White lite mer från historien.
”You guys think that I hate Fedor, I really don’t hate Fedor,” säger White. ”You know his management made, these guys made the biggest fuckup in history of all sports. We flew down there, you heard me talk about the island and all that shit, we flew down there and tried to make Brock Lesnar vs Fedor, and it was for big big money you know. And like I told you guys before, and I’ll say it again, they fucking laughed at it. And I told him, and he’ll lie if you ask him this, but I told him and he knows I fucking told him. Not Fedor, the dummie. I told the dummie, I said you are one punch from being worth zero. This is a huge offer.
In the fight business and in life things shift and things happened and build and you get an opportunity to do this mega fight. And everything was in line for Fedor and Brock to fight, it was right there. And you don’t laugh at those moments, you fucking seize them – You take it.
They didn’t take it. They thought they were too cool, too slick and too fucking funny. And like I said before they are not laughing now. And honestly, it’s over for him. I don’t give a shit what he is doing.”
Det Fedor kommer göra nu närmast är att möta Pedro Rizzo på M-1 Global den 21 juni. En match mot Lesnar är däremot nu utesluten, mest på grund av att Lesnar numera är pensionerad ifrån MMA-världen.
