Han har fått mycket skit, men i helgen bevisade han att man inte ger sig på Bryan Caraway ostraffat. Efter en delad domslutsvinst har han nu siktet inställt på titeln.
Bryan Caraway (21-7) var helt klart underhunden i fighten mot Aljamain Sterling (13-1). Trots det satte han stopp för Sterlings dittills obesegrade framfart.
Sterling hade länge attackerat Sterling, kallat honom för ”hemmafru” och sagt åt honom att lägga ned fightingen. På presskonferensen berättade han hur det påverkade hans inställning.
”You can’t talk shit about me, my relationship and everything about me, then expect to be all hunky-dory and shake hands before the fight. So I was just in the mindset that I was there to do work and beat this guy up. We hugged afterwards in the backroom and we’re cool now, but before that I was in the mindset that I was going out there to kill that guy.
I wasn’t satisfied from beating him because of what he said. That didn’t really do anything for me. It was the number that he had in front of his name, and that’s what I wanted.”
Härnäst verkar Caraway sikta in sig på en titelfight.
”I think this puts me in title contention. I think I’m the highest ranked guy now that hasn’t fought for the belt.
Before, I’ve struggled in the past with performance anxiety, and letting that consume me a little bit with confidence. Now, my newfound self, I’m ready to compete. I know my value. I know my skillset, and I can compete with anybody in the world.”
