Demian Maia är trött på att bevisa sig själv i welterviktsdivisionen. Han anser sig förtjäna en titelfight om han vinner sin match mot Matt Brown på lördag.
I en intervju med Combate berättar Demian Maia (22-6) att han kräver att få utmana om titeln om han vinner mot Matt Brown (20-13), och hur han anser att UFC använt sig av honom som en språngbräda för unga lovande fighters i welterviktsdivisionen:
” I always want to take top 10 or top 5 guys. Always. But in my last fights, they kept giving me these rising prospects that many people thought could beat me. But I beat them all, one after the other. First it was (Ryan) LaFlare, then (Neil) Magny and then Gunnar Nelson.”
”In those fights, I had the impression they were trying to use me as a stepping stone. I beat them all convincingly. Now I have the chance to fight Matt Brown, a really tough guy. But it doesn’t matter who I fight. With my arsenal, I believe I can beat everybody in the division. That’s why I want a title shot if I beat Brown.”
Maia är i storform med fyra raka vinster vilket han alltså hoppas kunna göra till fem mot Matt Brown på hemmaplan i Brasilien på UFC 198 den 14 maj.
Brown kommer till matchen med en färsk seger mot Tim Means (25-7-1) i bagaget men har två förluster på sina tre senaste matcher.
