T.J. Dillashaw har fått utstå mycket efter sin jämna match mot Dominick Cruz som slutade med en förlust för den före detta Team Alpha Male-fightern. Istället för en omedelbar returmatch har Dillashaw blivit förbisedd två gånger och Cruz tror sig veta varför.
Skador har satt stopp för Dominick Cruz framfart i bantamviktsdivisionen. Den 31-åriga amerikanen har dock lyckats hålla sig skadefri under 2016 och har under året lyckats ta tillbaka bältet han aldrig förlorade samt hämnats sin enda förlust i oktagonen genom att vinna över Urijah Faber.
Mannen han besegrade i titelmatchen, T.J. Dillashaw, har dock inte haft det lika lätt. Han har flera gånger bett om en returmatch efter den jämna matchen som slutade i ett delat domslut i Cruz favör men har istället blivit tvungen att ta den långa vägen för att få sin vilja igenom.
Dillashaw gick så långt som att erbjuda Cruz $ 100,000 (ca. 929 490 kronor) för en match men istället bokades ett möte mellan Cruz och ännu en Team Alpha Male-fighter, den obesegrade Cody Garbrandt.
Matchen går av stapeln den 30 december i Las Vegas och kommer att bli Cruz tredje match under 2016. Lyckas han ta hem segern utökar han sin segersvit till fjorton segrar i rad.
Vad är det då som gör att Dillashaw blivit förbisedd inför en titelmatch? I en intervju med MMA Junkie delade Cruz med sig av sina teorier:
“The new owners of the UFC, they’re a management company, they deal with high, elite-level stars, and if you really look at the background of the people who just spent $4.2 billion on the UFC, they’re going to make specific decisions according to making the business better,” sade Cruz till MMAjunkie. “Dillashaw, in my opinion, doesn’t make the business better. Cody, with the emotional wreck that he is, people can grasp to that because they see the emotion in him, they see what he’s thinking, they see what he’s feeling. He lets it all out. Dillashaw is fake. Everything Dillashaw does is a lie. He can’t let his true self out.”
“If he did let his true self out I think he would be much more interesting – but Dillashaw holds back,” fortsatte Cruz. “You saw it in our first fight, in our first interview, he holds back his emotion. Now, after I punked him, and then I beat him and took away his interim title and made him realize he never was the champion, he started talking. You’re hearing more talking out of T.J. Dillashaw right now than you ever heard not only when he was the interim champion, but ever in his entire career. You’re hearing more of Dillashaw now. I helped Dillashaw. I made Dillashaw more relevant. I made Dillashaw have a voice and I taught Dillashaw how to come out of his own shell. He can hate me for that all he wants, but this guy is talking more than ever. That being said, he’s doing that after he lost the opportunity by not letting himself out in the first place.”
Cruz tror att Dillashaw är frustrerad
Under intervju spekulerar Cruz om Dillashaws $ 100 000-utmaning beror på de problem som Dillashaw haft med Team Alpha Male under den senaste tiden. Dillashaw brukade träna med Fabers team i Kalifornien men gick skilda vägar förra året.
Dillashaw var länge under Fabers vingar och var ansedd att vara Team Alpha Males stolthet, speciellt efter att han vann bältet ifrån Renan Barao under UFC 173. Nu är det dock Garbrandt som är Team Alpha Males stora namn och får hjälp av Fabers och hans team.
Cruz tror att Garbrandt fått mycket hjälp av Faber för att få till titelmatchen och att det stör Dillashaw:
“(Garbrandt’s) run by Faber and he’s good at talking toward title shots,” sade Cruz . “The guy’s got eight title shots he’s never completed, so any guy with that background in media and understanding how to get a title fight, is going to help Cody get that title fight, and that’s what he did. He coached Cody into getting a position by doing what the big executives of the UFC want to see. T.J. Dillashaw left that coaching and he went to hang out with (Duane) Ludwig to sell peanut butter and talk about being a martial artist when that’s nothing that he’s actually trying to do. He’s actually just wanting a big fight, but he’s unwilling to do what it takes. He keeps his mouth shut but he’s finally just starting to open it up now. Now we’re starting to see who T.J. Dillashaw really is. He’s a whiny little crybaby when he doesn’t get his way. That’s basically about it.”
Dillashaw är bokad att möta John Lineker under samma gala som Cruz möter Garbrandt. Den 30 december kommer vi få se hur toppen av bantamviktsdivisionen kommer att se ut inför 2017.
