Strikeforces tungviktsturneringens mästare Daniel Cormier och UFCs utmanare Frank Mirs kommande möte har fått ett datum. Den 3 november i Oklahoma har Strikeforce bokat in dem för ett möte, rapporterar MMAFighting.
”There has been a lot of speculation as to who Cormier would fight next, and this is the fight that makes the most sense” sa Dana White tidigare till USA Today. ”The reality is, Cormier is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He just won the grand prix and beat Josh Barnett. He needs to fight opponents of that caliber, and Frank Mir is that guy.”
Från början ryktades det att matchen skulle ske redan den 29e september, men ett datum längre in på hösten var lite mer realistiskt. Cormier som kommer från de största matcherna i hans liv, och är ännu obesegrad på 10-0, möter nu Frank Mir som precis kommer från en förlust. Att dessutom gå från UFC till Strikeforce kan ses som ett steg ner för honom, men det är inte så han ser på saken.
”They came to me. I pretty much took the summer off,” säger Mir till The MMA Hour. ”I was hanging out at the time with the kids and I got a phone call and was presented with an opportunity, that, you know, coming off of a loss, makes a lot of sense to me and it seems like a positive step forward.”
