UFC 217 kan komma att bli en riktigt intressant gala med massor av stora namn. Förhoppningsvis kommer fansen att kunna få se både Stephen Thompson och Jorge Masvidal återvända till buren för att göra upp om topplatsen i welterviktsklassen.
Både Thompson och Masvidal förlorade sin senaste match men är redo att återvända till vinstkolumnen. När de båda var på plats under UFC Singapore såg de till att prata om ett potentiellt möte:
“(It’s not official) yet, but we want it,” sade Thompson. “We definitely want it, to get together and get out there in the octagon and face off. Obviously, you saw him in his last fight, which I thought he won against Demian Maia. (Masvidal is) a very good striker, and I think it’s going to be fireworks.”
“He does things that nobody really in the division does,” sade Masvidal. “The karate that he brings and the high level that he brings, it’s only him that does that. I would have to get in special sparring partners, I’d have to get guys that could mimic that and I’d have to prepare for it.”
Sedan dess har pratet mellan dem fortsatt och Masvidal vill fortfarande ta sig an ”Wonderboy”:

Thompson: ”Gör dig redo”
I en intervju med Severe MMA så pratade Thompson om en match mot Masvidal och han sade att han skulle se till att matchen blev av:
“You know. [Masvidal] asked for this fight, and it hasn’t been confirmed yet but it’s going to be my goal to make sure that happens, November 4th. So, be ready baby. Of course he’s saying easy money but let me tell you; it’s not going to be easy.” sade Stephen Thompson till Severe MMA.
“Man, first off, I don’t know if [Masvidal’s] ever had any knee injuries but this is my sixth one. I’ve had four on my left and this is the second one on my right, and being 34 years-old, you have to make sure everything is right before you step out there. I’m kind of a preserving guy. I’ve seen guys go out there, not ready, and trying to push it. Injuring their knee more, being out for a year; maybe even longer. So, I just want to make sure everything is healed up. I told him that I’d fight him; which is something I’m going to do.”
För närvarande har inga matcher officiellt utannonserats inför UFC 217 den 4 november. Det är dock ryktats om tre titelmatcher inför galan:
- Titelmatch i mellanvikt: Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre
- Titelmatch i stråvikt: Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Rose Namajunas
- Titelmatch i bantamvikt: Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw
