Alistair Overeem dök i veckan upp på UFC Tonight för att berätta lite om vad som hände i hans liv just nu. Han blev nekad MMA-licens inför UFC 146 efter ett misslyckat oförberett dopingprov. Detta i sin tur gjorde att han inte kommer kunna ansöka om en ny MMA-licens fram till i december, och det är först då han kan återvända till oktagonen. Men då måste han också bli godkänd då.
”What I’m hoping to achieve is that I can prove to the world that I am a clean fighter,” sa Overeem på UFC Tonight. ”It’s for me, the fans (and) the commission, to show that I am a clean fighter and I’m ready to come back and fight for the title in the UFC.”
Så det Overeem har börjat göra nu är att ta dopingprov, både oförberedda test och test varje månad.
”I did it, I took responsibility for it, I stepped away from the title fight and now I’m slowly building up the confidence with the commission by doing random tests – monthly tests – to show that I am a clean fighter, and this way prove that I am legit.”
UFC har även uttryckt att de inte kommer att marknadsföra en match med Overeem innan han får sin MMA-licens i handen. Detta innebär att december är en väldigt positiv tidsplan, då det ändå krävs en stund för UFC att marknadsföra en match. Men Overeem är ändå positiv över att kunna vara tillbaka i december och gå en titelmatch redan då.
”When I get back in there, hopefully December, hopefully for the title – but it’s up to the gentlemen in the UFC to decide that – I’m going to show the world that I’m the No. 1 (heavyweight). It doesn’t matter to me who I fight – I want to fight for the title,” förklarar Overeem. ”The UFC title is my goal. Then I have all the titles in the world. So whoever has the title – but I’m hoping Dos Santos because I think he’s going to make an excellent fight. And I think the fans want to see that fight, too.”
