Sage Northcutt spås en lysande karriär i UFC. Och trots att 19-åringen gick in i octagonen med tunga förväntningar på sina axlar, gjorde han ingen besviken.
Under helgens UFC 192 gjorde den hypade Sage Northcutts debut mot Francisco Trevino. Det skedde utan några större åthävor. På bara 57 sekunder hade Northcutt virvlat igenom och fullständigt demolerat sin motståndare.
Efteråt var Dana White eld och lågor, enligt den amerikanska siten MMA Fighting. I en kommentar till FOX Sports 1 sade han:
”He looked unbelievable. I love that Trevino was saying, ‘I’m going to smash this hype train.’ Trevino was 12-1, and Sage looked unbelievable tonight. The crowd went crazy. It was a really fun fight.”
Sage Northcutt, som uppmärksammats för sin aggressiva, karateinfluerade stil, ansatte tidigt Trevino för en hård offensiv, som inte upphörde förrän Herb Dean brutit emellan. Efteråt berättade Northcutt på presskonferensen om hur han såg på sin debut i världens största MMA-organisation:
”Just being in the UFC environment and being in front of the thousands of people who were out there watching, it’s everything that I’ve dreamed of, everything that I’ve imagined, and everything that I’ve thought of… I visualized it just like it happened.”
Trevino uttryckte efter matchen missnöje med domaren Herb Dean, som ska ha brutit matchen alltför tidigt. Trevino ska ha sökt upp och konfronterat Dean, och också knuffat denne, vilket föranledde UFC och The Texas state commison att inleda två separata utredningar med eventuella straff som följd.
I en kommentar till MMAnytt förklarade Northcutt att han tar saken med ro:
”It doesn’t disappoint me… He might not see [the win] as legitimate — maybe it’s because I’m younger? I don’t know. But Mr. Dean, Herb Dean, he knows what he’s doing. He is the official ref of the UFC, so he knows how to stop his fights and when to let them go, so he has the call. It wasn’t my call. It’s wasn’t Trevino’s call or his coach’s call. It was ultimately his call, so he knows what he’s doing.”
