För ett par dagar sedan valde International Wrestling Federation, FILA, att ta bort MMA som sport ur sin organisation. Detta innebar att de lämnar ifrån sig möjligheten att reglera MMA över världen. Efter beslutet söker nu Internationella MMA-förbundet, IMMAF, ett samarbete med FILA i en övergångsperiod för att kunna ta sig an de organisationer som tidigare varit kopplade med dem.
“This was the best decision possible that FILA could make regarding MMA,” skriver IMMAF:s ordförande August Wallén. ”Now we can start to heal the fragmentation within the MMA community and secure strong and unified international representation for MMA everywhere. We hope FILA takes our offer of cooperation as well as accepts our sincere support in their important task to save one of the oldest sports in the world on the Olympic program. As representatives of MMA we fully support the continued opportunity for wrestlers around the world to compete in the Olympics.”
FILA:s beslut att ta bort MMA ur sin organisation kommer innebära att möjligheten för en renodlad MMA-federation kommer kunna skapas, så som IMMAF. De kan därför börja ta beslut som är renodlat ur ett MMA-perspektiv, och inte ha med andra sporter att göra.
