Trots att det är Joanna Jedrzejczyk (9-0) som håller i stråviktsbältet i UFC så är det en annan stråviktare som känner sig som den främsta fightern i stråviktsdivisionen och det är Jessica ’JAG’ Aguilar (19-4).
Aguilar har ansetts som den främsta stråviktaren av många, men det är även många som glömmer henne då hon inte slåss för UFC.
”There’s a lot of people that don’t really understand the sport really well,” berätrade Aguilar för MMAjunkie. “I’m not taking anything away from Joanna; she’s worked for what she’s got and she’s accomplished what she’s accomplished. But I’ve worked for what I’ve accomplished, as well, and that’s why I have the No. 1 ranking.”
Aguilar svarade på en post på twitter för att påminna alla om att hon fortfarande är den bästa stråviktaren och att hon vann över Carla Esparza (11-3) 2011.
“I responded to the post (Carla) retweeted the UFC saying, ‘No. 1 in the world.’ – I’m just being real,” sa Aguilar. “I just said, if you want to be No. 1, you have to beat No. 1, which is me. I just wanted to wish her good luck and that was it. I was being real.”
“I’m gong to keep defending (my rankings). If nobody else does it and I don’t do it, then who is going to do it for me? I have to stay on top of that.”
Aguilar tycker att hon och Jedrzejczyk skulle vara en bra matchning.
“I think I match up very well with her,” sa Aguilar. “My last opponent was a Shooto boxer with tons of experience. We trained hard for it and I did a lot of work. They have similar styles. She was a big girl, she was 5-(foot)-6, and she was actually bigger than Joanna. There’s a lot of good things that I saw.”
“If it happens, it’s going to be a great fight. It matches up very well with me. We haven’t seen very much of her ground (game). It will be interesting to see and I’m sure the fans will love that.”
Aguilar har en match kvar på sitt kontrakt och hon hoppas på att få gå sin sista match för WSOF i sommar.
“I don’t know anything (about my next fight),” sa Aguilar. “They’re looking for someone for possibly June or July. For now, there’s nothing confirmed. … I would rather not have a break, but everything happens for a reason. I’m not in a rush. I’m OK. It’s just recovering time, getting better, stronger and we’re just going to have to wait for the next one.”
“I’ll fight anyone. I’m the champion for a reason. I’m not going to pick my fights or call out anybody. I just want to fight the best and continue proving why I’m the No. 1 strawweight in the world. That’s it.”
Aguilar vet att dom bästa stråviktarna nu befinner sig i UFC och för att få slåss mot dom bästa så vet Aguilar att hon också kommer att behöva ta sig till UFC.
“I’m the No. 1 ranked in the world, so it’s hard to find fights for me,” sa Aguilar. “I want to continue fighting the best and it’s obvious the UFC has the best strawweights in the world. If I have to come to that platform to show that I’m No.1, hey, let’s do it. That’s what’s going to happen.”
