I en podcast uttrycker UFC-fightern Matt Brown att om han ska titta på kvinnor som fightas bör de i alla fall vara topless eftersom de inte är byggda för att knocka sin motståndare. Brown passar även på att säga att inte heller flugviktarnas kroppar är byggda för knockouts.
Matt ”The Immortal” Brown ägnar sig i dagsläget åt rehabilitering av en skadad rygg som han nyligen fick besked om att han slipper operera. Eftersom han inte kan träna som vanligt har han mer tid på händerna än vanligt och därför har han tillsammans med kamraterna Jeremy Loper och Travis Clarke startat podcasten ”Legit Man Shit”.
I ett avsnitt av sin podcast hade Brown följande att säga om kvinnor och flugviktare.
– The whole fight we have women in one room, men in another room. Rousey and Miesha come on and all the women just fucking gather around the TV like it’s the fucking Kardashians coming on. I always said, ’I don’t know why they put women in the UFC.’ Now I know why. I just think this, if I’m [going] to pay $60 for a pay-per-view to watch women fight they should at least be topless. How many knockouts do you see in women’s fights? It’s not really my thing, I respect what they do, but look, they don’t have the body type or the power, all that shit, for knockouts. If you’re not a good grappler in women’s MMA then you’re behind. It’s no different than the 125 [pound] division of men’s MMA in that they’re just really not built for knockouts, säger Brown under podcasten.
Uttalandet kan få konsekvenser för Brown då UFC under förra året formaliserade sin uppförandekod för sina anställda och samarbetspartners. Där framgår det det bland annat att man som fighter inte får uttrycka sig nedvärderande om kvinnor.
Partiet i uppförandekoden som kan vara aktuell ser ut som följande.
- Derogatory or offensive conduct, including without limitation insulting language, symbols, or actions about a person’s ethnic background, heritage, color, race, national origin, age, religion, disability, gender or sexual orientation
- Inappropriate physical, verbal and online behavior (such as inappropriate statements made via email, text messaging or social networks)
- Conduct that undermines or puts at risk the organization or promotion of a UFC event, including without limitation, failure to deliver, engage in or otherwise execute any and all promotional responsibilities, or failure to return in a timely manner the accurate and complete documents, or information for immigration, licensing, medical, tax or athletic commission purposes and
- Conduct that undermines or puts at risk the integrity and reputation of the UFC.
Med andra ord riskerar Brown att på något sätt straffas för sitt uttalande av sin arbetsgivare. Det kan röra sig om böter, någon form av samhällstjänst eller i värsta fall uppsägning.
