Rashad Evans ville få chansen att möta Jon Jones i en returmatch på UFC 197 efter att Daniel Cormier drog sig ur på grund av skada men hans match på UFC on FOX 19 satte stopp för detta, berättar han för MMAJunkie Radio.
Rashad Evans (19-4-1) vill ta revansch mot Jon Jones (21-1) och bad om att få möta honom på UFC 197. Men matchen mot Glover Teixeira (24-4) på UFC on FOX 19, som går av stapeln veckan innan, satte stopp för detta eftersom det skulle skapa för stora problem för att hitta en ny deltagare. Istället fick Ovince Saint Preux (19-7) chansen.
”It just didn’t get done. When it was all said and done, it was just the fact that if they put me (in UFC 197), they would have to find something for that FOX card, and the FOX card was sooner. So that probably would have made more of a problem than if they just pulled someone else altogether. It would have been a bigger problem for them to solve.”
Evans hoppas att få ta sig tillbaka till vinstkolumnen sedan förlusten mot Ryan Bader (20-5) medan Teixeira är ute efter sin tredje raka vinst. Han ger också sin framtida motståndare beröm.
”Credit to Glover; he’s really got experience under his belt, and you can see it in his past couple of fights. He’s really mixing it up and exploring a lot of areas we haven’t seen him do in previous fights, so it shows he’s got that chip on his shoulder. And the fact he’s willing to step in on short-notice, it shows he’s hungry to get back right where he was when he faced Jones.”
Något som Evans och Teixeira har gemensamt är att de båda har förlorat mot Jones. Evans uppskattar Teixeiras kamp men att han tänker sätta stopp för detta för att själv kunna få en till titelchans i framtiden.
”This is a very determined fighter that I’ve got in front of me, but the results remain the same, whether it’s him or ’Shogun.’ If I want to bring myself into the conversation to be taken serious or move on to higher fights and eventually get a title shot, then these are the guys I’ve got to fight. There’s no way around it.”
