Det har nu blivit klart att Cage Warriors nyblivna bantamviktsmästare Brett Johns (8-0) kommer att försvara sin titel mot James Brum (13-2) på Cage Warriors 62.
Brett Johns är endast 21 år gammal men har sedan proffsdebuten i juni förra året skrapat ihop åtta raka vinster. Han deltog nyligen i Cage Warriors bantamviktsturnering där han i semifinalen besegrade svenske David Häggström efter tre ronder. I finalen så stod han efter fem ronder som segrare via delat domslut mot Jordan Desborough och blev därmed ny mästare.
“James Brum has been at the top of this division for a while, he’s someone I’ve watched over and over again,” säger Johns. “He’s a sound guy too and a win over him would be huge for me. That’s exactly why I wanted to fight Brum. I can’t wait already.”
James Brum åkte senast på förlust i september 2011 då han åkte på en submissionförlust mot UFC-fightern Erik Perez. Han tog sig efter en vinst till Cage Warriors där han på femton månader radade upp fem raka domslutsvinster. Han gick senast match i augusti och gick då segrande via submission mot Ruslan Abiltarov.
“Brett Johns deserved to win the title at Cage Warriors 59, but now he’s in with the sharks and I’m the biggest shark in the division. After six fights abroad for Cage Warriors, I’m excited by the prospect of returning to the UK to fight for what I believe is my title. For me, this has ‘Fight of the Year’ written all over it. I guarantee that on December 7 in Newcastle, I’ll be walking into that cage the challenger and walking out the new Cage Warriors bantamweight champion of the world.”
