Chael Sonnen gick på sin podcast loss på Tito Ortiz. Han hävdar att konspirationsteoretikerna har rätt i att Ortiz klappade under deras match och begär en returmatch mot ’sportens värsta fighter’.
Det har gått en månad sedan Chael Sonnen förlorade i sin comeback mot Tito Ortiz på Bellator 170. Direkt efter matchen var det många kritiska röster som höjdes mot Sonnen efter att hans prestation inte motsvarat uppsnacket till matchen. En del, som Dan Hardy, gick så långt som att de hävdade att matchen var uppgjord. Ett av argumenten till den konspirationsteorin som fortfarande går runt på nätet är en sekvens i matchen där det ser ut som att Ortiz klappar till en giljotin Sonnen hade låst in på honom.
Sonnen säger inte att matchen var uppgjord men han förstod varför den diskussionen uppstod. Han hävdar att Ortiz klappade, både fysiskt och muntligt, och att det var därför han släppte sin giljotin.
”The score is one-one between Tito and I”, sa Sonnen under det senaste avsnittet av You’re welcome. ”And you always go into a rubber match, and everybody knows that. And the only reason why I kept my mouth shout … Look Tito tapped in that fight. I knew Tito tapped when he tapped. I heard Tito verbally tap and I have never said a word about it. Privately to Tito, at the press conference or to you guys … The reason was he quit the sport five seconds later. He quit the sport five seconds after I tapped, and he quit the sport a minute and five seconds efter he tapped.”
Det hela stör Sonnen. Han säger att om han fick välja en match att få göra om under hela sin karriär skulle han välja Ortizmatchen. Den är pinsam eftersom han tycker att han förlorade mot sportens absolut sämsta fighter.
”He (Tito Ortiz) is the worst fighter in the sport. We were fighting for title. I took his title. I am now the worst fighter in the sport. Whoever I fight next, I win that fight, he then becomes the worst fighter.”
Anledningen till att Sonnen valt att vara tyst så länge handlar om att det inte fanns någon anledning att avslöja sanningen. Han trodde att Ortiz verkligen menade när han sa att han skulle gå i pension. Det tror han inte längre på efter att den tidigare UFC-mästaren sagt sig villig att möta Fedor Emelianenko i helgen.
”There was no rematch. There was was nothing to build and no reason to tell the real story. He then make believes he is going to come back for Fedor. Tito was never anywhere near the Fedor fight. He did not offer his services, he had nothing to do with it. But the bottom line was that he then took himself out of retiring by pretending that he offered to fight Fedor.”
Sonnen sparar inte på krutet när han under ett tio minuter långt angrepp på Ortiz. Den tidigare mellanviktaren vet inte vad Ortiz kan utföra för arbete utanför att tävla i MMA. Han menar att Ortiz är för oduglig för att kunna tjäna pengar på annat håll och att han kommer vara i behov av pengar rätt snart.
”He is a delusional nut job and now he is coming out and saying he was trying to fight Fedor … All of the sudden you are not retired, are you mr gangmember? All of the sudden you are back in the game, aren’t you suitboy? So what is it, are you back or not? And I know he has got to come back … he’s bust, he’s a knucklehead. But there was also the opportunity I was waiting on. If I knew he wasn’t quitting I would have told the story from the very beginning.”
