I was relaxing at home with my family the day before Christmas Eve, contemplating starting my training camp after Christmas, when Dana White phoned.
He said: ’Mike, I’ve got bad news, your fight in London is off.’ But then he said, ‘I’ve got some good news, your fight in London is back on!’. I was a little confused but he said, ‘Gegard Mousasi is out but Anderson Silva is in.
Tog tillfället i akt
”I took the opportunity while I had Dana on the phone to tell him that when I beat Anderson I want my long overdue title shot to which he responded, ‘Let’s just see what happens in the fight first and we’ll go from there.'”
”The fight with Anderson does change some things in training; he’s a southpaw fighter but more importantly, he is a striking specialist whereas Gegard is a well-rounded guy.
[…]It’s going to be a striking match, I’ll try to mix in a few takedowns here and there but for the most part it’s about preparing for a really, really good striker. It’s a lot easier and less of a headache in training camp. You don’t have to source good grapplers, good wrestlers and good ju-jitsu guys as well as good stand-up guys.”
”What I used to do was consistently over-train but now I listen to my body a little more and my training schedule is designed with recovery in mind. I alternate hard days with lighter days whereas it used to be intense training as hard as I could from Monday to Saturday. Experience has told me that you can’t do that because you pay the price in the fight when you lose strength and explosive power.”
”Luke Rockhold will defend his title in a rematch against Chris Weidman […] I see Luke dominating from start to finish and perhaps putting in a better performance than last time and by the time they’ve had that rematch, the dust will have settled, I’ll have beaten Anderson and I’ll be next in line.”
